Recent studies are showing what yogi's have known for centuries-that regular yoga and meditation can have profound physiological and psychological benefits; reducing stress and anxiety, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and relieving many chronic ailments, including joint pain and Rheumatoid Arthritis (recent Harvard Study). The key to starting a practice is to listen to your body, knowing that what it needs can be different each day, drop into how you're feeling and focus on the breath. Regular breathing practices can calm the mind, relax the nervous system and help sooth and ease the mood. Breathing Exercise: put your left hand on your tummy and your right hand on your heart, now tune into your breath, as you breath in deeply feel the belly rise and the chest expand to sides, as you exhale slowly feel the body softly falling, repeat for 5 long slow breaths, gently closing the eyes. How about trying this for just 5 minutes each day, or if you hit a challenge or stressful situation, focus on the breath and this will bring the mind and body back to gentler pace.
