About the Course's Teacher: Janet Cleary
Nurse, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher (MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions),Breathworks Teacher,EFT Practitioner
“People are my passion and helping them make the most of their lives is such a privilege. Life experience, particularly through my work as a nurse, has enriched my understanding of how we struggle with everyday life. I now use my life skills, training and a large dose of humour and common sense to facilitate people in discovering their own sense of what they need to lead more fulfilled lives”
I have over 30 years’ experience of caring for other people in my role as a nurse but it was when I experienced great personal loss, anxiety and stress in my own life that I was introduced to mindfulness and meditation. This helped me through a very difficult time and taught me invaluable skills in self-care, stress management and creating some mental space for me. The courses also guided me in turning some kindness and compassion towards myself, something that I often find challenging.
Seeing the value that this brought to my own life and indeed my work as a nurse led me to pursue further studies in the area and consequently, I engaged in the MSc in Mindfulness Based Interventions in UCD.The MSc gave me an amazing foundation and training to teach and pass on the skills I have gained. Since qualifying I have facilitated multiple programmes (6-8 weeks), workshops and individual days of practice for health care professionals, patients and the community. These have focused on stress, anxiety, mindfulness for pain, coping strategies, breathwork, mental health and well-being.
Now I find myself in that “wonderful stage” of life, just when I thought I had it all sorted when the hormones kicked in. It’s been a rocky few years and very challenging. I have found that the most important parts of coping with all the changes that menopause brought to me mentally and physically has been everything I have emersed myself in in relation to mindfulness and meditation.
I had to do my best to turn what I learned towards myself, more challenging than I ever thought imaginable. That and a large dose of HRT, some strong female company and a good sense of humour was also prescribed. All related and needed. I am now on a mission to share anything I can with my fellow female warriors. We are worthy.
