Rebecca Una Sultana, Children’s Yoga, Mindfulness & meditation Teacher
Rebecca is a B.ED. (Hons) graduate who taught English language and literature in Secondary Schools in Malta before moving to Ireland. Her special interest in children’s mental health and well-being, awareness of which seemed to be lacking in most schools, led her to look into ways she could use her experience to help children lead happier lives.
She qualified as a Kids Yoga Teacher and subsequently trained as a Kids Mindfulness & Meditation teacher. She is a firm believer in teaching mindfulness and meditation from a young age, and continues to study and update herself on both.
Rebecca has taught Yoga & Mindfulness classes to children and preteens at community centres in Baldoyle, Howth and Artane.
She gives special attention to creativity because she believes that being creative is one of the most effective ways to truly connect with oneself. Everyone is creative, and being mindfully creative provides opportunities to be in the flow which helps children develop skills to effectively manage their feelings.
Her classes encourage self-expression whether it is through yoga games, story-telling and other forms of mindful movement, which all help to relieve stress, feel energised, gain more focus, concentration and confidence, the benefits of which will spill over into other areas of the child’s life.
Rebecca believes that teaching mindfulness to children and teenagers and guiding them to find the best practices that suit their individuality is key to their inner peace.
Learning to be more mindful helps children process tough emotions, supports and fosters self-regulation and helps them connect with others in a kind and healthier way.
Teaching children meditation through mindful and kindness meditation, breath-focused meditation and creative visualisations is another important element of Rebecca’s class.
Encouraging young children to have a daily meditation practice sets them up for life. It helps calm their nerves, have clearer thoughts and nurtures a positive and caring mindset towards oneself and others. Children are mentally and emotionally stronger, and more resilient.
Rebecca believes in the importance of providing each child with simple and gentle tools that will enable them to practice self-care successfully as they grow.
