IMBOLC - THE BIRTH OF SPRING - YIN YOGA & SOUND WORKSHOP
‘I am the dream of awakening, I am the return of light’ - Caroline Mellor
We will celebrate Imbolc, our ancient celtic festival, associated with Ireland’s only female patron saint, Brigid, goddess of inspiration, healing and fertility. Marking the beginning of spring, it is celebrated half way between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
To honour St Brigid, we will begin our workshop with a short guided meditation to help shift energy that is stuck and inspire creativity within.
The word ‘Imbolc’ comes from old irish meaning ‘ in the belly’. The seeds of spring are beginning to stir in the belly of mother Earth and it is a time when sheep ‘bring forth milk’. Our yin yoga session will focus on nurturing the belly/womb, supported by the earth.
A slower and mindful style of yoga, we hold in the poses for longer, inviting ourselves to turn inwards and reconnect with the sensations of the body, mind and breath.
This slowing down and mindfulness of yin yoga, calms the nervous system, alleviating stress and tension while improving energy flow and restoring equilibrium and balance.
We finish our practice with an hour of the soothing sounds of the Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, drums and other instruments. This will further engage your nervous system, unblock stagnant energy and promote a deep sense of relaxation and peace.
Yin Yoga is suitable for everyone but the sound bath would not suit the following:
- anyone with a pacemaker
- anyone with a metal implant fitted in the last 12 months
- anyone who has had major surgery in the last 3 months
- anyone in their first trimester of pregnancy
